If You Give a Mom a Mom Friend

Every mommy needs a break. And ladies, I’m serious, you need to make time for yourselves! (Here’s why.) Before planning to hang out with friends, my husband asked how long I planned to be out one Sunday morning. We began joking about all the things I was going to do with my friends in the theme of one of my favorite children’s books, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” by Felicia Bond and Laura Numeroff. This tête-à-tête inspired the following poem.

If You Give a Mom a Mom Friend

If you give a mom a mom friend, they may workout together.

If you give a mom a workout, she may want to grab some brunch.

If you give a mom a brunch, she may want to get a mani-pedi.

If you give a mom a mani-pedi, she may want to do some shopping.

If you give a mom some shopping, she may buy something nice for herself.

If you give a mom something nice for herself, she will feel special, enjoying this time with her mom friends.

If you give a mom time with her mom friends, she will feel whole and happy with herself.

If you give her happiness with herself, she will feel loved by her family.

If you give a mom love from her family, she will love herself even more.

Mommies work hard, but sometimes they need a break. When moms get time to themselves and with their friends they recharge and feel good about themselves. Give moms a break so she has the support and encouragement she needs from you, her friends, and herself.

If you know a new mom, there are many great ways to help and empower her. I like these lists by Scary Mommy and Raised Good. If you’re lacking some mom friends, here’s a helpful guide that I’ve found to be completely true by New York Times Parenting.
